"Dare Dare", Quick Analysis of a Work of Art:
During her visit to the animal park of Gramat in the Lot, Laurence Saunois had the chance to attend the games of small piglets. They were chasing each other at full speed, their tails in the air. These little ones were of the Bayeux pig breed, a Norman breed resulting from a cross between Norman pigs and Berkshire pigs whose origin dates back to the end of the 19th century.
The bombings that took place during the D-Day landings (war 39-45) had practically decimated the breed. It was necessary that a protection program was launched to safeguard it. Currently the numbers are still low but there is hope that this hardy pig, perfectly adapted to life in the open air and whose flesh has undeniable gustatory qualities, will prosper.
At a time of globalization and especially of standardization of intensive breeding, it is a good omen to see old breeds, real jewels of the land, safeguarded by passionate breeders.
