"Nefertari was a Newfoundland dog who died at a very young age. Her owner had contacted me to have me paint a portrait of her "daughter". I understood perfectly the sadness she was feeling because she and I had a bit of the same journey with our four-legged companions. I had never been separated from my dog Tchuck. She had never left her dog who accompanied her everywhere. A life made of complicity and love. I learned of my dog's illness just as I had begun the painting of her dog. As fate would have it, Tchuck had the same disease as Nefertari. These were very hard moments. I could not touch a brush for a month: the time to accompany my dog in his illness. Tchuck left me without suffering. When I finished this painting, there was not a single moment when I did not think of my dog. Somehow, painting this dog helped. I put all my heart into it because I knew that this portrait could mean a lot to its owners". LS
