Galerie Amelie - Maison d'Art

""The result is a whimsical and playful setting—despite the mismatched patterns—that invites visitors to truly step into the painting, navigating between the pieces of furniture to discover their craftsmanship, all the way to the back of the room, which is capped off by a faux fireplace and bookshelf. There, sitting quietly, is a small dog sculpted by artist Laurence Saunois, whose head can be seen peeking out from David Hockney’s painting. HOMMAGE À DAVID HOCKNEY
"Interior with a lamp"
From September 6 to 16, Amélie du Chalard, alongside curator Johanna Colombatti, will present the fourth installment in a series of design-themed exhibitions featuring a recreation of an interior by David Hockney.
A copy of David Hockney’s *Bigger Book* will be on display for the occasion, thanks to the support of the Lelong Gallery. Amélie and Johanna wanted to recreate this setting using contemporary pieces—most of them commissioned from French designers—and to showcase the gallery’s artists, whose works make up all the paintings hanging on the walls. Or, in other words, how art draws inspiration from life, and life from art.
Presented this year as an artistic mise en abîme, this famous painting—which captures a vibrantly colored interior scene—becomes, through the interplay of mirrors, a living scene. “Interior with a Lamp” is David Hockney’s famous painting, and here we see a proposed recreation of this fabulous setting, paying a three-dimensional tribute to the genius of the artist’s brushstrokes.
An exhibition with the feel of a fantasy reality—for who hasn’t dreamed of stepping through the looking glass and living inside a painting, if only for a moment? That is the experience offered here.
