"Dare Dare! Quick analysis of a work of art :

"The nuthatch is one of the birds that populate my garden. Every year, a couple chooses the hollow of a branch or a trunk to make their nest. I spent long moments in their company following all the stages of nesting: singing of the male at the top of the trees while the female fills the excavation with twigs, plugging the entrance hole with a mortar made of clay and slime to leave only a suitable passage, laying the eggs, feeding her young and first exits from the nest.
A state of trust was gradually established between them and me. Intelligent, they had well understood that I did not want them any harm. The winter came, by an intense cold, I posted myself on the lookout in the old henhouse after having put some sunflower seeds in the hole of an old stump which was at only one meter from me. the nuthatch arrived the first on the spot. She examined the stump carefully and quickly found the food. After taking a seed, she flew to the end of the stump and flew away. The blue tits and the great tits, followed by the robin came in turn to get food before flying to the hazel tree, to taste their seeds in the shelter. As for the nuthatches, they stayed on the spot and methodically shelled them. But when the nuthatch arrived in a hurry, they all fled without asking for their rest.
She would carefully select a seed and fly away almost immediately. This image of the bird, its wings stretched out in the winter light, haunted my mind. After several days of stalking, I had a few shots. Given the speed of the bird and the lack of light, only a few were good enough to give me a basis for my composition. What my eye could not capture, the camera lens was able to freeze; the feathers of the bird's wings were a transparent gray, spread out in a fan during the takeoff. I also had the right color of the feathers under the wings. That's all I needed to imagine my future painting.
I realized it on raw medium in a first step with acrylic before accentuating the contrasts of the stump, the main feathers of the bird and the background with oil". Laurence Saunois
